Our house is 10 years old now and we are ready to start repainting some of the rooms, we have always been happy with the original colours but it is time for a bit of a change. The areas we are starting with are the front entry and its tall ceiling, the staircase to the office, the living room, two bathrooms and the guest bedroom. They had all been done in a warm neutral very similar to Benjamin Moore’s CC-120 – Stone House and we are now going to change to BM CC-110 Muslin, the change is not a lot different but it is lighter. We will still have the warm & cozy look we like but with a fresher and more alive feeling.
I like a home’s colours to flow from one room to another and be able to move pillows and accessories around from some of the rooms to others and have them work together but not have the house feel too homogenous. So when I have been toying with the idea of adding blue, BM HC 161 – Templeton Gray (I can’t believe I’m saying that – BLUE!) to the guest bath and the guest bedroom, I have been apprehensive but excited for a real change. I have put cushions in the great room on our dark brown leather couch that are taupe with a hint of blue and love them, and the living room carpet has a small compliment of blue that you don’t see unless you look reasonably closely.
So, I was playing with all of the cushions, a big chip of the Muslin (it looks lighter in the photo than it actually is), a small one of the blue, a towel, the tile, cabinets, etc. and I think it works – keeping in mind that the rust cushions won’t be with the blue. I’d love to hear anyones thoughts – am I not seeing something that is so obviously wrong?
Then, this afternoon I was at an upholstery shop because we have a wing back chair in the guest room that is need of recovering (it is about 15 years old and still has burgundy in the fabric!) and that has me rethinking …….. there are so many variables when we make these decisions – I will keep you posted on my progress!
