We have been working on a sweet little cottage that is on the beach near us, it is not quite complete but close enough to share some pictures with you. The homeowners requested that all of the changes blend with the scale and character of the cottage and carriage house, I believe that this has been achieved ~ especially once the staining has been finished.
You can tell by comparing the weathered shingles to the new looking wood where we added on to the carriage house, providing them with more storage and a nice long work bench.
The new covered entry has been a wonderful addition to this home, adding architectural interest and a dry spot when entering and leaving the house.
We will be installing a round window with spokes that will match a couple of others on the house and then be filling in the gables with shingles. The ceiling is open rafters and looks just great. The house and carriage house have completely new shake roofs, beautiful hand split shakes produced here in Qualicum Beach.
There is a tiny guest cottage on the property that had an outdoor shower – we built a new home beside them for another couple and these homeowners felt a bit exposed because of an upper story window so asked to have a privacy screen & ceiling beams built. You would think that with the open beams it wouldn’t do the task but they have helped in creating full privacy.
The next two pictures will show you how cute this little place is ~ we have not made any alterations on the areas shown in these two photos, except for the roofing. All of their lovely outdoor furniture and other decorative items are all put away right now because of the work that has been going on, but it even looks quainter when the homeowners have their creative finishing touches in place.
