We have personally been excited with the current trend of creating outdoor kitchens and outdoor fireplaces, they make so much sense!

With our season of warmth and sunshine being somewhat short and so treasured, being outdoors as much as is possible for meals and relaxation is very Canadian!  We have taken up this new trend from our neighbours to the south who have designed this concept in many configurations at every level of budget imaginable.

We have created a humble & small version at our cabin that suits our needs perfectly, it was built with logs from the beach, beams, bricks, cedar boards and tile – and many hours of labour that Rick has so enjoyed! Our good friend who has a masonry company built the fireplace/oven, the guys had a lot of fun working without being “at work”.

It has been wonderful to sit around the fire in the evening on this cozy little deck, it has turned out to be our favourite spot to be!

Once the fireplace has it’s glass doors installed, it will then produce enough heat for the oven above where we look forward to cooking homemade pizzas, slow cooking ribs and baking bread! The cabin does not have have a proper oven, only a toaster oven, so this will open up all kinds of cooking opportunities.

The portable BBQ fits in nicely with the tank hidden in the cupboard below. The cupboards will be so great for storing extra utensils, napkins, candles, etc. An extra table along the wall of the cabin is set up for setting out the food and plates. You can see in this photo that the roofing is not quite complete, another weekend project lies ahead! That, along with a wood storage box to the left of the fireplace, should just about finish this project off. What to plan next???
