With the last couple of days being so sunny and warm it was beginning to feel like spring was fast approaching. With snow drops and iris denticulata blooming, daffodils and grape hyacinth poking up through the soil and hydrangea leaf buds starting to unfurl, why would we think otherwise? Then today, the sun disappeared, the air turned damp and very cold and the weather report has warned of hints of snow mixed with rain in the forecast. So even us “spring optimists” had to say today ~ it’s still winter ~ don our warm coats, scarfs and wish we’d brought hats along to take away the chill.
We have a fun weekend planned with friends and we are really hoping that there will only be a light drift of snow and fingers are crossed for some sunny periods and just maybe a sheltered bench (and blankets!), a fire pit and a hot tub?
Or maybe cozy couch’s, blankets and a movie? Whatever your plans, I hope you have a good weekend too!
It’s hard to believe that we actually get winter down here, but we do. It’s been really cool at night for the past couple of months and the days have also been cooler than in October and November. There are many tourists on the beach and swimming in the ocean, but WE notice the cooler weather. The last couple of days have been warmer and the trees in the jungle are starting to produce their spring blooms. Also my garden is coming back to life so there’s signs of spring everywhere down here. It must mean that it’s getting closer to the time we head back to Canada.
Funny how we all have our seasons and adapt to what they are. Your cooler would be so warm for us! Even how you equate the opening of the spring blooms as to being a sign that your time in your southern home is slowly coming to a close for another season. April is always a happy time for me, not only is it our real spring (not the teasing we get up here for 6 weeks prior!) ~ it always means that you are coming back home!
