Everything is coming together beautifully as the completion of the “Salish Sea” house is almost upon us! Over the last weeks each trade and company responsible for supplying and installing the choices made by the homeowners have been putting their finishing touches on their part of the process. For us it is an extra busy time spent organizing, scheduling, inspecting and keeping everyone abreast of the many details left to be taken care of.
The homeowners of this gorgeous home will return on Monday after being away for a couple of months and we look so forward to walking through the house with them, hoping they find it just as they had dreamed it would be. After the intensity of the decision making process, which is unavoidable in high end custom home construction, we are down to going over the last minor choices that will complete the picture.
The final coat of the acrylic stucco on the exterior of the house has had to wait until the weather improved and even now it is only being fit in on good days, our spring has not been all that warm & dry this year. You can see in the shots below just how much nicer the walls (on the garage only) are with the colour coat applied!
The exquisitely simple style of the entry doors has now been enhanced with the stain applied, matching the stain to the strength of the medium dark pieces of the clear cedar tongue & groove siding flanking the entry.
As well as completing the house itself, we are working on the gardens hardscaping that will truly show this house as one where outside living is as important as life inside. The homeowners have worked with landscape designer Keltie Chamberlain from Nanaimo to produce a plan that will provide them with this ability. Once the landscape projects are fully complete, the beauty and tranquility that the garden itself is sure to create will certainly be a draw to be outdoors. The first stages of this process have begun…
The west side fencing is a almost complete and looking fantastic, it really complements the house design ~ while Rick encouraged a larger sizing of products (posts & rails) and a slightly different way of installation than was specified, the overall look is as planned.
Patios are being formed, filled with gravels and well compacted in preparation for having a combination of pebble coloured / pewter accented stamped concrete and taupe coloured concrete paving stones installed…
The lower level of the property that is closest to the beach and bordered by an existing stone retaining wall is having a ground level cedar boardwalk / patio installed so the groundwork and base preparation have begun…
The interior of the house is looking wonderful, particularly now that paper that has covered and protected the floors for so long is removed, the grout is installed in the floor tiles and most of the equipment and excess materials are removed to the garage ~ you can finally see how spacious and grand this house truly is. Many projects are in their final stages of completion and it is getting very exciting as each one finishes…
One of the crews that make the house look so good is the cleaning girls ~ without them all of the hard work of so many others wouldn’t ever look as nice. They have been busy putting in hours after the main trades have left for the day and fitting in time during the day, skirting around them as best they can. The window cleaning company has one of the most important roles ~ until the windows are cleaned, inside and out, the house never looks finished. Kind of like how the garden can be fully weeded, the borders edged, all the shrubs pruned, with the flowers in full bloom but until the grass is cut the garden never looks right.
So, thats about all we have to show for now ~ we look forward to sharing photos with you as they become available!
It looks great, Linda.
