As the house we are working on is coming to completion the exterior work is looking much more complete. Once the extensive rock work is finished and all of the inherent dust that goes along with cutting the stone has settled down we will be able to show you really good photos of this lovely new home. For now, if you can just look past the messes and unfinished areas to see the form and overall aesthetic that is developing….

We are waiting for the dust to settle before installing the custom ordered garage doors, for removal of the white protective tape on the windows and to start the final coats of stain on the exterior trim work – these three items will change the look dramatically.

The choice of siding is a James Hardie product, in a mix of lap siding with ColorPlus technology, Khaki Brown – with hardie shingles in the gables that have been custom coated in a product that is guaranteed to be maintenance free for 25 years. The fascia & barge boards and all of the other exterior trim work is a combed face KD spruce product which is stained to match the Hardi colour – Timber Bark. The entry beams and casings around the entry door are all gorgeous fir that has been stained to let the grain show through.

For a closer up view of the hardie product, using pre-made corners which is a cleaner look, as opposed to using 2 boards that simply butt up to each other.
The stone mason has been working steady, slowly making progress in the creating of a fabulous stone facade. Applying real stone with so little mortar showing is painstaking & messy work ~ but work that will anchor this house, adding so much character.

The stone chosen is Rocky Mountain granite, in a 2″ veneer ~ accented with flamed top Basalt that has a natural split finish to surround the windows and for use as window sills.

In working with their house planner / designer, the owners of this home had the use rock incorporated on the back of the house as well, where it will enhance areas where they will be spending many hours enjoying the outdoors.

For an update on the interior ~ the interior trim work is almost complete, floor tiles are installed, all of the cabinetry is underway, the staircase railings are in and some of the painting is taking place. Such a bee hive of activity! Photos soon……
